Biagio Pignatta
Right next to the Hotel Paggeria Medicea,
the lovely quaint Restaurant Biagio Pignatta
evolves with a historic background on Viale
Papa Giovanni XXIII 1 – Artimino.
Situated on the same estate as the historic
La Ferdinand Villa with the 100 chimneys
owned and built by the Grand Duke Ferdinando,
the hotel and the restaurant are housed
in two adjacent buildings. The building
closer to the villa was known as the ‘Corridoio’
or the corridor that housed pages, grooms
and servants. It is known today as the Hotel
Paggeria Medicea. The building next to this
was called the "Palazzo del Sig. Biagio
Pignatta". Built in the same style
as the Paggeria, the name is derived from
the butler of Grand Duke Ferdinando I, who
lived there on the first floor. The ground
floor housed the riding stables of the court.
Today, it has been transformed into the
Restaurant Biagio Pignatta.
It’s lovely to eat at the restaurant
that proves to be a haven after a tour of
discovery of Artimino. Warm and inviting,
the Biagio Pignatta has 4 dining rooms that
can seat up to 200 guests on two floors.
The ground floor has a large dining room
and a connecting smaller room, both facing
onto the Grand Duke’s butler, Pignatta's
colonnade, with a terrace offering one of
Tuscany's finer views. Aromatic odors waft
around as you indulge in lovely traditional
and international cuisine, accompanied by
the fabulous wine of Artimino. The Fattoria
in the medieval village of Artimino produces
wine and olive oil about 400 meters from
the villa. An alfresco dining experience
is fantastic here in summer with the hills
of Tuscany as a lovely backdrop. Sitting
in the loggia and enjoying the cool breeze
at the Biagio Pignatta, appetites are sharpened
as one rich dish follows another from the
kitchen of this innovative restaurant. You
can expect traditional Tuscan dishes sculpted
with an unusual touch such as pasta with
shellfish and a versatile and succulent
carpaccio. Tender, melt-in-the-mouth fried
vegetables can be compared to the thin-as-air
delectable potato chips and are difficult
to stop eating. Top it off with a crisp
rose made in Artimino and the Carmignano
wines as they blend well with a fantastic
delicious range of Tuscan traditional dishes.
Weaving the ingredients of history, traditional
cuisine and beautiful scenery, the Biagio
Pignatta takes you through avenues of discovery
with a memorable touch.
