Il Ristorante Edy
Piu
Surrounded by wonderful Tuscan countryside
and the hills of Lastra a Signa, the Edy
Piu was once a monastery about 1000 years
ago. The leaders of the armies and knights
of yore used to stop for refreshments at
the ancient monastery. Today, the same structure
has been re-built as a 15th century country
house with a restaurant on 94, Via di Calcinaia
in Lastra a Signa. The restaurant is surrounded
by olive groves and vineyards that produce
the Florentine "Chianti" or the
typical Tuscan wine. Lovely aromas drift
around the area in Lastra a Signa from Il
Ristorante Edy Piu. A warm welcome awaits
from the owners, as Edy and Mario, Miriam
and Jonathan escort you into their traditional
restaurant.
The dining room evolves over elegant interiors
as the family bustles around catering to
their guests with courtesy and care. Seasonal
vegetables with mushrooms and truffles abound
as does the signature grill at Edy Piu’s.
Lovingly and beautifully presented Tuscan
dishes consist of various types of fresh
pasta, the famous "Florentine"
beefsteak, Crostini with innovative sauces
and Lardo I Colonnata, a delicacy stemming
from a small town situated near marble quarries
of the Apuanian mountains. Edy Piu is also
famous for their Tuscan Panzanella that
is typical of Tuscan rustic cuisine. Appealing
with simple ingredients, the Tuscan Panzanella
is made up of home-made bread steeped in
water and in vinegar and squeezed and mixed
with a salad, composed of tomatoes, cucumbers,
red onion, a lot of basil and dressed with
extra virgin olive oil.
With the Tuscan spirit of taste, Edy Piu
serves up traditional dishes with Gran Farro
nel Passato di Fagioli Rossi or "Spelt
in Red Beans Soup", Fusilli Freschi
sull’ Uscio dell Orto or a spiral
pasta with herbs and Pappardelle al Sugo
di Anatra that is pasta seasoned with duck.
La Fiorentina di Manzo or the "Florentine
Steak", tasty and tender, cooked on
olive wood embers and served on a brazier
to retain its succulent taste is a real
treat being filling and delicious. At Edy
Piu’s, tradition is followed to the
minutest detail which is obvious in their
lovely Coniglio alle erbe di campo or "Rabbit
with Herbs" that is browned to a golden
perfection and topped with garlic, herbs
and white wine. Perfecting the art of cooking
and serving, Edy Piu dishes up an awesome
Tagliata con erbe Aromatiche or "Beef
Tagliata with Aromatic Herbs" with
mint, aromatic herbs and the inevitable
olive oil.
A large wine underground cellar houses
over 200 Tuscan and Italian wines that accompany
their fabulous traditional dishes. A spectrum
of cheese to suit tastes and appetites are
found at Edy Piu’s. Topping an amazing
course with the sweetest of desserts, deft
fingers concoct Bavarese alla Frutta or
“Peach Bavarian with Strawberry Sauce"
that takes the palate to paradise and "Apple
Puff with Cream Sauce" that is a puff
pastry cake stuffed with apple, cinnamon
and peach jam served hot with English cream.
Edy Piu gives you a culinary journey to
the heart of Tuscany.
